Like many families across the country, we recognise that there will be considerable excitement surrounding England's World Cup Round of 16 fixture against Mexico, with kick-off taking place at 1:00am on Monday 6 July.
We understand that some students may wish to watch the match and share in what could be a memorable national sporting occasion. However, as a school, we must also ensure that students are able to attend school regularly, arrive on time, and are ready to learn.
We would therefore like to remind all families that normal attendance and punctuality expectations remain in place on Monday 6 July. Students are expected to attend school on time and for the full school day. Whilst we appreciate the significance of the match, staying up late to watch it would be a family choice and would not be considered a valid reason for absence, lateness, or reduced engagement with learning the following day. Any absence will be recorded in line with statutory attendance guidance, and unauthorised absences cannot be approved for this reason.
Monday also marks the exciting start of RPCC Sports Week 2026 and what a great way to start, with an England win (hopefully!)
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will take part in a range of workshops (at their allocated time) which they have chosen themselves, giving them the opportunity to experience fun, engaging activities with their peers that are available within our local community. We hope these sessions inspire students to discover new interests, develop new skills and encourage them to stay active both in and out of school. This is another positive reason for attendance and punctuality on Monday.
We would be grateful for your support in helping your child strike a balance between enjoying the World Cup and ensuring they are able to attend school ready to learn. For some students, particularly younger children or those who may find a very late night challenging, families may wish to consider alternative ways of following the result.
As always, we value the strong partnership between home and school in promoting excellent attendance. Regular attendance remains one of the most significant factors in securing positive educational outcomes for young people.
Thank you for your support and understanding. We hope those who choose to follow the match enjoy the occasion, and we look forward to welcoming all students into school as normal on Monday morning.
