At Regents Park, we believe that home learning is an important part of every students’ progress. It can support and extend the learning in a classroom, develop independence and establish positive routines in preparation for GCSE revision.
Home learning is set regularly using Google Classroom. Students have been issued with their logon details and passwords, as well as class codes. This enables them to see tasks, access teacher resources and links and complete tasks online. Students can, of course, complete home-learning in a written form if they prefer.
For Year 7s, part of our transition process is to support students in managing home learning. To this aim, the Computing curriculum begins with lessons on accessing and using Google Classroom effectively.
In Year 7, 8 and 9 students will be set home learning in all subjects apart from PE. In Years 10 and 11 students will be set home learning for core subjects and their option subjects. Home learning will be set regularly and the frequency is determined by the number of lessons per week for each subject:
5 lessons p/week = weekly home learning
3 lessons p/week = fortnightly home learning
2 lessons p/week = fortnightly home learning
1 lesson p/week = fortnightly home learning
Regents Park home learning is based on Retrieval Practice because this is the most effective way to support students’ progress in developing their long-term memories and recall skills in preparation for their GCSEs.
The type of activity and time required to complete will vary according to students’ needs and abilities. SEND students can access additional support in room 12. The school library is open before and after school as well as at break and lunch and students can use resources here to complete home learning. Specific computers are designated for Google Classroom and the librarian is there to offer support.
Home learning will be tracked and monitored and students’ efforts will be rewarded with achievement points, certificates and rewards. We place a high importance on parental support and believe that in working together we can support students’ progress for excellent outcomes.
