In its simplest form Mathematics is the means of looking at the patterns that make up our world and the intricate and beautiful ways in which they are constructed and realised. Numeracy is the means of making that knowledge useful. It is our vision that the students leave with the numerical skills to help them realise their potential in their futures.
The Mathematics department comprises of 5 full time teachers, a number of additional part time staff and 2 members of staff devoted to providing intervention for our students requiring additional support in Mathematics. There are eight class rooms in the Mathematics department all equipped with interactive whiteboards and access to a suite of laptops.
We use Edexcel to examine our students externally at Key Stage 4 and our Grade 4+ pass rate has consistently been in line with the school targets in recent years as well as both our levels of progress and our higher grade pass rate having exceeded the national average. We have a dedicated Mathematics team who run a weekly Pi Club on Thursday mornings as well as very useful revision sessions for our Key Stage 4 students before key examination periods. Both of these are extremely popular with students and are very well attended.
At Key Stage 3 we provide invaluable support both within and outside of Mathematics lessons to support students arriving at Regents Park with low levels of numeracy as well as those highlighted as not making sufficient progress. ‘Numeracy Ninja’s’ has been introduced into Year 7 to support the transition to secondary school as well differentiated schemes of work.
