Drama is an active and lively subject which enables students to experience in a practical way situations they meet in life and Literature, to explore sound and rhythm and to create atmosphere using lighting and make up.
In the lower school (Years 7-9)students have one Drama lesson every two weeks. The choice and range of topics can cover Greek Myths, mystery, adventure, playmaking, mask work melodrama, soap operas and many more.
The emphasis is on enjoyment, communication and building confidence. Students are taught the skills required to communicate ideas in a range of theatrical styles.
In Years 10 & 11 students may opt to do Drama at GCSE level. This involves preparing polished improvisations, and scripted or devised work for performance. Examination is via practical coursework and one written paper in the summer of Year 11. A long performance piece is also required for the final part of the coursework. Reliability, teamwork and commitment are essential but also make this course very rewarding.
All students have the opportunity to be involved in the annual school production and a Drama Club is offered after school, every week.
Drama is a most enjoyable subject to do and examination results are good.
